Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) held another grand event which was organized for  3  days on 15th-17th May 2013. The event entitled the 37th IPA Convention & Exhibition took place in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) and participated by the oil and gas industry in Indonesia. It was officially opened by President of Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. After the opening ceremony, VICO Indonesia held the MoU Signing Ceremony with the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) which was conducted by Gunther Newcombe, President & CEO VICO dan Scott Bartos, US EPA. This program was held in VICO’s booth. This agreement is a VICO’s commitment to enhance its effort in reduce emission and any environmental impact in the operational activities.

In this IPA Convention and Exhibition, VICO engineers had the opportunity to present technical papers at  technical sessions. Two of VICO engineers are  Agam Munawar (Production System Section Head)with technical paper titled b” Dewatering Facilities For CBM Resource Appraisal, Lesson Learn From SANGA-SANGA CBM Field, East Kalimantan”, while  Mohammad Resawan Hakim (Geologist) presented  a technical paper titled “ Improving Performance in a Mature Field: Integrated analysis for Identification and Optimization of Low-Resistivity Hydrocarbon-Bearing Sand Reservoir  in Semberah Field, Mahakam Delta, Kutai Basin”.   One of the technical paper received a prestigious award of for  the Best Paper for Technical Engineering Category.

Aside of participation in the technical session, VICO also developed a booth in the area of 65m2 at the exhibition area. During the three days, VICO’s booth was always full of visitors consisting of the IPA delegates, Journalists, Students, and public.  The enthusiastic of booth visitors are quite big. Pak Gunther Newcombe, President & CEO VICO was present in some of the presentations at the booth to give direct responses from visitors who include journalists questions.

Not only about technical information, Human Resources Department also  joint in the booth to give presentation in regard to Career Development Plan, presented by Ibu Juliana Tompodung, HR Manager VICO. This presentation was well accepted particularly by university students or professional job seekers who were interested to join VICO Indonesia.

On the day 2 of the exhibition, ESDM Minister, Jero Wacik took a time to visit VICO’s booth and listening to the update of the VICO’s programs both conventional and CBM activities  from pak Bambang Ismanto, VP Resources Management of VICO.

VICO’s participation in the conference and exhibition like this is expected to make VICO become more recognized and to give the positive image not only in the oil and gas industry but national wide as well.

First time in Indonesia, VICO Indonesia has succeeded in producing 0.5 mmscfd CBM gas as an alternative energy that is used for PLN power plant supply in Sanga Sanga, Kutai Kartanegara. Electricity from CBM gas can illuminate about 2000-2500 families around the working area.

In a press conference, Gunther Newcombe, President & CEO of VICO said that although VICO CBM still in the exploration stage and the amount produced is small, but VICO CBM is able to provide benefits to the community and within the next two years, CBM production is expected to continuously increase.


The inauguration of the first CBM power plant operation in Indonesia was held in VICO Mutiara field in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. The event was attended by Lobo Balia, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Muliawan, SKKMIGAS Deputy Operations Control; Naryanto Wagimin, Director of Upstream Business Development on Directorate General of Oil and Gas, and the local governments.


The Inauguration of CBM gas for electricity began from a cooperation agreement between VICO and PLN regarding the sales and purchases of CBM from Sanga-sanga CBM block which was held on November 4, 2011 in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ office. This program is a concrete manifestation from VICO to support government's plan that CBM can be used for electricity.

"Reinforcing the Role of Energy Sector on National Economic Growth" became the theme of Petrogas Days 2013, organized by Chemical Engineering Department University of Indonesia in collaboration with Society Petroleum Engineer (SPE) and IATMI. VICO Indonesia was one of the sponsors of the event that held at Balai Sidang University of Indonesia. In the event that lasted two days on March 15 - 16, 2013, VICO had the opportunity to be guest speaker at the seminar which was attended by hundreds of students.

VICO Indonesia gave the presentation in the seminar in Friday 15 March. The presentation began with Juliana Tompodung, HR Manager, who explained about company's profile, vision and values and the recruitment process in VICO. Furthermore, Caecilia Damayanti, Reservoir Engineer, and Agam Munawar, Production System Section Head gave presentation about "Building & Developing CBM Gas Reservoir to Support Industrial Gas Demand". Many questions came up by the seminar participants, such as how the recruitment process at VICO, CBM production process, and the question about whether VICO have the plans to the expansions. The questions from the participants show their interest in VICO Indonesia.

VICO Indonesia was also participated in similar event before, namely the Integrated Petroleum Week 2013 that held at Institute Technology of Bandung. VICO’s participation in such events is expected to give a positive image and in line with one of VICO’s value that is globally recognized.

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) - ITB Student Chapter was held the  Integrated Petroleum Week (IPW) 2013 on 7- 9 March, 2013. This year, the theme of IPW 2013 is “Surpass the Boundaries: Human, Technology, and Challenge Ahead”. This event took place at ITB, Bandung. One of the parts of IPW activities is Integrated Company Days that presents a variety of companies which engaged in oil and gas such as VICO, Chevron, and Total E & P Indonesie. Chairman of SKKMIGAS, Rudi Rubiandini who presence in that event was also expressed his appreciation to PSCs who participated in IPW  2013.

On this occasion, VICO Indonesia gave a presentation in front of hundreds of students who presence at the Company Days on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Juliana Tompodung, HR Manager provides information about vision and values of VICO as well as the recruitment process at VICO. While Andre Wijanarko, Reservoir Modeling Manager explained about VICO operations. The enthusiasm of students was seen from many of the questions asked. 90 minutes that given by the committee was not enough to accommodate a variety of questions and session with VICO was forced to end before all questions were answered. Besides giving the presentations, VICO HR team also distributed flyers with information about the recruitment process at VICO.

In addition, VICO’s participation on this IPW 2013 program is aimed to give a positive image of VICO’s activities as oil and gas Production Sharing Company to the people, especially students.

VICO Indonesia involved in a three-days IndoGAS 2013 Conference and Exhibition, January 21 - 23, 2013. In line with the Government plans to sustain the future gas energy development in Indonesia, the theme of the event was “Sustaining Growth Towards a Golden Age of Gas” and VICO was the Bronze Sponsor. Since gas is the future and promising energy in Indonesia, this prestigious event which introduced many prominent speakers who were experts in gas energy from national and international forums, attracted participants from domestic as well from abroad.

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Jero Wacik, officially opened the Conference on Monday, January 21, 2013. President & CEO of VICO Indonesia, Gunther Newcombe, also gave presentation to the audience on “CBM Fuelling Indonesia Gas Market Development”. VICO’s booth attracted a lot of attention from the visitors, particularly the Minister of Energy himself, as seen in one of the photos.
